Norwich nightclub to re-open as Wonderland this weekend

One of Norwich’s biggest nightclubs will open its doors again this weekend, after almost six months of not being used.

Project, in Riverside, closed at the end of March after the Luminar Group failed to come to an agreement with the site’s landlords, X-Leisure, to reduce its rent.

The club, formerly Lava Ignite and Time, has since been left unused as X-Leisure searched for new owners for the site.

This Friday the club will re-open, as Wonderland.

There were 60 jobs lost when Project closed but new owners No Saints Ltd has not yet confirmed how many jobs the club’s re-opening will create.

The Propaganda indie nights will now move back to the Riverside club, having moved to the Prince of Wales Road club Tau when Project closed.

Propaganda will host a ‘house warming’ party at Wonderland on Friday night before the club’s main launch party on Saturday night.

That will see American rapper B.O.B - whose debut single went to number one in the UK and US music charts - appear at the club and play a live set, as part of an after-party following his gig at the University of East Anglia earlier in the night.

The club also have another star attraction lined up for next month. Pop superstars Black Eyed Peas will head for Wonderland on Monday, October 29, to play a DJ set, although which members of the quartet that will feature has not been confirmed.

A spokesman for the club said: “At a time where clubs and live music venues are closing up and down the country, Wonderland is committed to bringing high-end clubbing and live music experiences to music lovers at affordable prices and this is part of a long-term vision to open Wonderland venues throughout the UK.”
