The latest UK library survey issued by the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy shows that for the seventh year running the library, based in The Forum in Norwich, has been named as the UK’s most popular library.

The figures show that there were 1,273,416 visitors between April 2012 and March 2013 and the library issued 1,159,262 books and other items during the same period.

The survey also brought good news for the entire Norfolk County Council-run library service, showing it to be the most popular of all county authorities in terms of books and other items borrowed per head of population.

Margaret Wilkinson, cabinet member for community services at Norfolk County Council, said: “These figures reinforce how much our libraries are valued by members of the public. We have an exceptional service and I’m pleased that so many people continue to use them for a variety of reasons.”

Jennifer Holland, Head of Libraries and Information at Norfolk County Council, said: “I would like to say a big thank you to all our staff and volunteers for their hard work and commitment to making our libraries such welcoming and interesting places to visit.”

  • So , less than 1 book per visitor per year. My guess is that it's more than likely used as a convenient meeting place , especially by hoardes of foreign students on exchange visits. I imagine it also becomes increasingly busy as the temperatures start to drop.
