Nurses have been helping shoppers learn how to keep their hearts healthy.

As part of National Heart Month, two cardiac nurses from the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital were on hand to the public’s questions on heart health at Chapelfield today.

The event is part of a new partnership between the shopping centre and hospital, which aims to bring health information and advice to more people in Norwich.

Nurses used a model to demonstrate how the heart works and were also letting shoppers handle medical devices such as pacemakers and the stents used to expand blocked blood vessels in the heart.

The stand also had information on how to keep hearts healthy and manage heart health following a heart attack. Chapelfield’s general manager Davina Tanner said: “Chapelfield is committed to supporting the local community and having these events in the centre makes them very accessible. It’s a great way to raise awareness of health issues amongst our shoppers.”

Over the next few months, there will be other health events covering kidney disease, mental health, skin conditions and the eye condition glaucoma.
