A family firm specialising in furniture will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of the opening of its Norwich store with a party tomorrow.
Aldiss in Hall Road will be providing lots of special offers and giveaways at the party, while its Fakenham superstore will also be joining in the extravaganza.
Managing director Paul Clifford said: “The nice thing about our party is that you don’t bring us a present, we give you a present. We have giveaways and added value offers right across the stores.
Of the firm’s Hall Road base, he added: “It is a magnificent building with two easy access floors and people can pull up right outside the door. It is a smart modern building for a smart modern city.”
He said the 10 year landmark was a great opportunity to say thanks to everyone who supported Aldiss, and he was looking forward to the party.
“It’s a three week celebration beginning on September 14 with a party atmosphere, and cake of course.”
Aldiss began in Norwich Street, Fakenham, more than 120 years ago, selling drapery, haberdashery and fashion.
Now the family firm specialises in furniture at affordable prices, with an emphasis on service.
Three family members have overseen the company’s growth and success in a period which has seen economic boom and bust, two world wars, numerous prime ministers and the reigns of seven monarchs.
Tim Aldiss, grandson of the founder W J Aldiss, may have retired from the day to day running of the store and is chairman of the group, but he still keeps a trained eye on the stores.
“I still find it very difficult to walk into one of the stores and see someone waiting. I go barmy.”
He’s says the family business traditions of strong service and good value are paramount.
“My father drummed it into me that it’s not always about the cheapest goods; it’s about the best value for money that counts – and I think that’s something we’ve maintained down the years. We aim to sell first class products at very competitive prices,” he added.
While the 50,000sq ft Norwich store celebrates its 10th anniversary, Aldiss has also in recent years refurbished the Fakenham superstore with £500,000 spent on a new roof, an environmentally friendly lighting system and new store front.
