Perfecting pancake tossing can be an art in itself - but a Norwich cafe owner has added an extra challenge into the mix by attempting the pancake day tradition while riding a unicycle.
Chris Avey, from the Old Bakery Cafe in Witard Road, has been entertaining customers since Saturday with his unicycling antics outside his cafe, and he says persistence is the key to trying to master the trick.
Mr Avey, who started unicycling about six years ago, said: “I’m lucky if I do two pancake tosses in a row - the pancake ends up on the floor quite often!
“Everyone enjoys a bit of entertainment, and it is entertainment if I manage to toss the pancake and also entertainment if I fall off! It is just a bit of fun.”
Mr Avey said he will continue his unicycling trick throughout the week, and he is also serving a selection of sweet and savoury pancakes all week too - with toppings including lemon and sugar, apple and mincement, goat’s cheese and red onion, and ham and cheese.
Mr Avey opened the Old Bakery Cafe about a year and a half ago and describes the food he serves as good value and “keeping things simple but not too plain.”
The cafe’s menu includes British favourites like shepherd’s pie and bread pudding, but is also mixed with international options like French croque-monsieurs and Moroccan tangines.
