First Bus has won contracts to transport athletes, officials and the media, as well as provide spectator shuttle services at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Gordon Hamilton, Raul Cardoso, Steven Lacey, Matthew Edwards and Steven Kidd have volunteered to be part of a 700-strong First bus driving pool for Glasgow in 2014. In total more than 200 First drivers from across the company’s UK operations will be working alongside 500 subcontracted drivers.

In their temporary roles during the Games, the drivers will also be helping to provide services to and from The Emirates Arena and Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, Celtic Park and George Square. As part of this, they could well be involved in transporting ‘elite athletes of the Commonwealth’.

Lee Howes, operations manager for First in Norwich, said: “FirstGroup’s bus and rail services will play an integral part in the success of Glasgow 2014. I’m delighted that some of our drivers will have the opportunity to take part, and that they will be part of the First team this summer. I have no doubt they will act as fine ambassadors for us, delivering their personal best (PBs).”

Members of First Eastern Counties’ team taking part in the Games will spend varying amounts of time supporting Glasgow 2014. Some will work in Glasgow for five days, while others will spend more than two weeks at the Games.
