It’s almost here! The countdown has begun to what promises to be the most exciting Lord Mayor’s Celebrations yet.

Final preparations are going on across the Fine City for a weekend of fun and frivolity, culminating in the spectacular Lord Mayor’s procession.

More than 60 floats will feature at the highlight of Norwich’s calendar year, which is the oldest Lord Mayor’s procession outside the capital.

And with endless weird and wonderful performers, this year’s celebrations are set to be unforgettable.

Judith Lubbock, Lord Mayor of Norwich, said: “I want as many people as possible to turn up and enjoy the day.

“I’m looking forward to seeing all the imaginative costumes and floats.”

The weekend will give people the chance to celebrate being part of the Norwich community.

Sheriff William Armstrong was enthusiastic about promoting the spirit and tradition of Norwich.

“The event brings in all ages,” he said. “It is very important to the city that we engage with everybody.

“We need to talk up Norwich, it’s a great place to live.” Mr Armstrong added that the need to raise as much money as possible for Norfolk Cruse Bereavement Care was vital.

“We are deeply conscious of the need for the right kind of support to prevent longer-term problems,” he said.

The Lord Mayor confirmed the importance of the charity because bereavement touches the lives of everybody.

Festivities are set to bring joy to the crowds through a series of stunning shows and displays for young and old.

The element of surprise will be finding out how outlandish people can make their floats this year.

The countdown to the Lord Mayor’s Celebration will continue in the Evening News this week, and there will be a special show on the Evening News’ sister station, Mustard TV.
