A Norwich mum has launched a Slimming World group after experiencing a “new lease of life” following her weight loss.
Morna Hill, 52, from south Norwich, has gained a new career after dropping two dress sizes with the organisation.
The mother of twin girls said she never quite lost all her pregnancy weight after the birth of her daughters in 2004. And after the loss of a close childhood friend after a seven-year battle with cancer, Mrs Hill found herself struggling to manage her food intake.
She said: “Having always tried to be careful about what I ate I thought, ‘well, I could get run over by a bus tomorrow so what the heck, I will eat whatever I fancy!’”
She added she “couldn’t fit into most of my clothes by spring 2016”.
After seeing a photo of herself on holiday, she realised she wanted to get back in shape – inspired by her mum, who had joined Slimming World on the Isle of Wight.
Mrs Hill found a local Norwich group and said: “I went on my own and felt a bit ‘Billy-no-mates’ but soon got chatting with other members. My lovely consultant and her team were all so welcoming.”
In fact, Mrs Hill found her time at the group to be so positive she has founded her own Slimming World meeting.
The group launched on Thursday, July 13, at Notre Dame High School in Norwich.
Mrs Hill said: “I can’t wait to launch my own Slimming World Group and support and empower more people to lose pounds and gain self-belief”.
She added: “I will be there every step of the way for my members”.
The Slimming World eating plan is known as Extra Easy, and is based on food optimising. There is very little weighing or measuring, and slimmers can eat much as they like of lean meat, fish, fruit vegetables, pasta, rice and pulses.
Members are also encouraged to increase their activity levels, whether this means walking more frequently; using stairs not lifts; or just dancing around the kitchen.
Slimming World aims to promote a healthy lifestyle, and help to reduce health risks associated with obesity.
