The airport had been closed all day yesterday but reopened this morning after staff worked from 4am today to clear the runway of snow.

Richard Pace, managing director at Norwich Airport, said: 'I am glad to say that the airport opened at 9.30am this morning.'

He said there had been some cancellations of Amsterdam and Edinburgh flights this morning, with aircrafts stranded at other airports, but he said normal service was resuming.

'We now expect to remain open, and the key message is for customers to keep in touch with their airlines about their flights.'

He said staff had worked all day yesterday and from 4am this morning to clear the snow so that the airport could open.

'To put it into context, the runway is 45 metres wide and 1.8km long, it is the equivalent of about six miles of road,' he said.
