A bike-mad family will be cycling hundreds of miles across Britain to raise money for two cancer charities.
Dave Sinar, 57, wife Jo, 41, and their son Ben, eight, from Youngmans Close, North Walsham, are fundraising for the Teenage Cancer Trust and Prostate Cancer UK by cycling 800 miles through England, Northern Ireland and Wales over seven days.
Mr Sinar, a former international cyclist who now buys Jaguar cars, was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2011 but is now healthy after an operation that year.
The fundraising effort has been kick-started by Ben, a pupil at Millfield Primary School in North Walsham, who has collected £200 off his own back.
Mr Sinar said: “I’m very proud of the lad. It is nice for kids these days to have something to aim for. It will be nice to have a week off work riding my bike. It is superb sharing the experience with my family. We train together as a family. It will be hard.
“I wanted to do my bit for Prostate Cancer UK because it is one of those diseases which is increasing. I want to repay people who helped me.”
The challenge will start this Sunday at Cleethorpes and the family will cycle through Congleton, Holyhead, Dublin, Rosslare, Weymouth, Cardiff, Bristol and finish at Birmingham.
Mr Sinar, who stopped competing in professional competitions four years ago, will be cycling the whole route and will be joined at different stages by his wife and son.
The route has been organised by his Birmingham friend Mike Hopkins.
“Cycling is a passion for the whole family, People think we are mad but it is a way of life,” Mr Sinar added.
He said his son had caught the cycling bug and was phenomenal at the sport for his age.
