A closed section of road at the major entrance into North Walsham is set to re-open imminently after a four-day closure.
Norwich Road, between its junction with the A149 by-pass and Park Lane, has been shut since a water-main burst last Wednesday evening, isolating businesses and forcing traffic to take a time-consuming detour.
One resident whose home was flooded in the incident moved into temporary accommodation after the burst.
A spokesman for Anglian Water said workmen had reinstated the road on Saturday and it had been left to cool yesterday. It was due to re-open “within the hour” she said at 10.45am.
Liam Doyle, whose Computer Assist business lies within the closed stretch of road, said Monday morning was usually their busiest, as customers brought in computers which had developed problems over the weekend.
“We usually expect about 30 customers first thing on Mondays - it’s like a doctor’s surgery - but we’ve only had two so far,” said Mr Doyle at 10am.
He and neighbouring kitchen and bathroom business Pipedreams both complained that Anglian Water had failed to keep them informed.
“We were told it would be re-open on Friday night,” said Jerry Beauchamp, director of Pipedreams.
