Parts of Norfolk may have been hit by a half-a-month’s worth of rain in heavy thunder storms that hit much of county this afternoon.
Chris Bell of Weatherquest said an area around Acle and Great Yarmouth had a lot of rain, as well as hail.
He said there were three or four very heavy thunder storms this afternoon, one in Acle and Great Yarmouth, one in central areas like Dereham and Reepham, and another near Swaffham.
He said these areas could have received over an inch of rain in one or two hours - half a month’s rainfall.
Mr Bell said: “No matter how good your drains, you are not going to be able to cope with that much rainfall in one go.”
He said the biggest thunder storms had now moved off the coast, but there could still be showers today, but more thunder storms were unlikely.
However, he warned there was the potential for “something quite heavy” late on Saturday morning, which could particularly affect southern Norfolk.
He added that there could still be more showers, but not as heavy, later in the weekend.
He said that while heavy thunder storms are not unusual at this time of year, the difference today was that they were across the wide area.
