Twenty-seven council officials in Norfolk earned at least £100,000 last year, newly released figures have revealed.
Figures from the Taxpayers’ Alliance showed the number of council staff who received remuneration of at least £100,000 fell by one on the previous year’s figure. The largest remuneration was for former Norfolk County Council chief executive David White, whose departure from the authority cost £400,800. He had a salary of £205,300, but received £106,100 in compensation for loss of office.
That included redundancy of £35,400, payment for contractual notice of £63,600 and untaken annual leave of £7,100. On top of that, his exit led to further costs of £57,600 in actuarial strain and national insurance costs, along with a £31,800 employer pension contribution.
A dozen other officers at County Hall received remuneration of at least £100,000, including former head of children services Lisa Christensen and former director of transportation Mike Jackson. Every chief executive took home at least £100,000.
The redundancy of former deputy chief executive Bridget Buttinger from Norwich City Council cost City Hall £115,819 in compensation for loss of office.
