Deputy chief constable Charlie Hall was chosen following a selection process which concluded with a panel interview on Thursday.

DCC Hall has roots in Sheringham and recently chaired strategic group overseeing the emergency response to the tidal surge floods. He said: “I feel privileged to have been appointed to the role of deputy chief constable and am committed to continuing to deliver the highest quality policing service to the communities of Norfolk over the coming years.”

Mr Bailey said: “I am delighted to appoint Charlie as our new deputy chief constable. He has a wealth of experience and knowledge of the county and of the policing challenges we face – he has proven his ability to perform the role since taking on the position of temporary deputy constable in June.”

Police and crime commissioner Stephen Bett said: “I have worked with Charlie over a number of years and have never been anything other than impressed by his ability, professionalism and knowledge.”

DCC Hall joined Norfolk police in 1992 on the fast-track programme from university, and led the introduction of neighbourhood forces and PCSOs in 2005. In 2009 he became assistant chief constable, taking responsibility for the HR portfolio and then, from April 2010, leading collaboration with Suffolk police. In October 2011, he was appointed the collaborative lead for Protective Services in Norfolk and Suffolk, overseeing public protection, intelligence, serious and major crime and specialist operations.

  • I'd like to know how one can get information directly to Chief Constable Bailey without first being vetted by his various aides and then passed elsewhere? It would be easier to arrange an audience to see the Pope! Perhaps Mr Bailey would let me know how he can have overall responsiblity for police in Norfolk when it is down to others to decide what he gets to see or know?

  • Home grown talent made good. Charlies father was also a Norfolk police officer and his family have every right to be extremely proud of him.

  • Still waiting for my comment to appear - what is wrong with it other than the truth?
