A support group for people with liver problems has handed over £1,000 to a Norwich cancer centre.

The Norfolk and Norwich Liver Group decided to give the donation to the Big C Centre, which is based on the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital site at Colney, because of the centre’s support for the liver group in allowing it to hold meetings.

The centre, which is run by Norfolk and Waveney’s cancer charity Big C, has more than 1,000 people come through its doors each month.

The money will go towards all the services the centre offers to cancer patients and their families, as well helping to fund all the little touches at the centre, such as tea, coffee and cut flowers.

The centre is also hoping to buy a wheeled unit for the hats and scarves it sells for ladies with hair loss, so it can be wheeled out of a meeting room when in use and still shown to patients.

The Norfolk and Norwich Liver Group’s next meeting will be held at the Big C Centre on Monday, November 5, at 1.30pm.

Dr Simon Rushbrooke, a consultant gastroenterologist at the N&N, will be coming to the meeting to speak about the Fibroscan which the group raise funds for last year.

He will also speak about liver disease in general and in particular among young people.
