Five years’ worth of fundraising paid off for a south Norfolk college after an outdoor gym was launched.
All-weather gym equipment has been installed in the grounds of Wymondham College.
Wymondham College Parent Staff association (PSA) collected about £20,000 over the course of five years.
The equipment was officially unveiled by principal Melvyn Roffe following the PSA’s annual meeting on Saturday.
Mary Lawson, outgoing chair of the PSA, thanked everyone for their hard work in securing the equipment, and in particular, Sarah Dhesi.
“She was very influential. Sarah had done something similar somewhere else and she worked really hard to push the project forward,” she said.
“We chose seven pieces of equipment including a cross trainer, monkey bars and a step walkway.”
Mrs Lawson, whose two children attended the college, said the PSA wanted to ensure the money was used for the benefit of all pupils.
“We wanted something which would involve all pupils. We wanted it to be for boarders, day students and staff – we wanted everyone in the school to have the opportunity to use the equipment.
“The role of the PSA is to link the parents to the college.
“It is a boarding school so the focus is on community spirit.
“We also hold events and fundraisers including an annual quiz and a winter fayre. These events are good for getting people together when they otherwise wouldn’t meet up.”
