Rail passengers in south Norfolk are being urged to have their say after Mid-Norfolk MP George Freeman launched a major public consultation on a manifesto for a 10 year upgrade of the Norwich to Cambridge railway.

As part of the broader Once in a Generation Prospectus for East Anglian Rail set out by the Anglia Rail Partnership, Mr Freeman is championing a menu of improvements which include half hourly Norwich to Cambridge services, station upgrades and more trains.

Mr Freeman, along with Jonathan Denby from Greater Anglia, met passengers at Wymondham and Attleborough stations where they handed out flyers and spoke to passengers.

Mr Freeman said: “It’s our station, our town and our railway and it’s up to us to have our say.

“Wymondham station is a historic, national treasure.”

Mr Freeman has been campaigning for better Norwich to Cambridge rail links for more than five years.

Councillor Joe Mooney said: “It’s good because it will bring more people into the town and it will be fantastic for the people of Wymondham.”

Mr Denby said that the service had seen passenger numbers increasing from 350,000 in the line’s first year of operation to more than 940,000 a year by the time of its 10th anniversary in September 2012.
