Morrisons lodges planning application for third Norwich store

Proposals to build a new Morrisons in the north of the city have been lodged with the city council.
The supermarket chain plans to build a food store on the site of Goff Petroleum, off Aylsham Road.
Morrisons and the fuel distribution company have worked together to come up with the design for the 20,000 sq ft store which would provide 250 new jobs.
A public exhibition was held last month which saw local shopkeepers raise concerns about the development, fearing it would impact their businesses.
Those behind the plans, however, said members of the public spoke “convincingly in favour of the proposal.”
A planning application has now been submitted to Norwich City Council.
Mike van den Berg, Morrisons development executive, said: “Our job-generating proposal would be a massive boost for the area and offer the community what it’s crying out for – a new opportunity to shop for quality, affordable food and a new focus for Aylsham Road.”
More than 200 people visited the public exhibition over two days on October 25 and 26.
According to the developers, 82.73pc of those who submitted a comment form were in favour of the plans with 3.64pc undecided and 13.63pc opposed to them.
Under the plans, all 20 of Goff Petroleum employees currently employed on the Aylsham Road site will keep their jobs and be relocated to the company’s Wymondham office.

Lisa Lane, overall new supermarkets to not create jobs, that is proven. Just because a new supermarket opens, it doesn't mean people buy more merchandise as the market is only so big. For every job created there will be a job lost or a recruitment freeze elsewhere.

If this development goes ahead it is surely another nail in the coffin of the long delayed redevelopment plans for Anglia Square, which include a large supermarket on the Botolph Street car park area.
