The attempted theft happened at 7.45pm on Sunday.

A woman in her early 40s was walking along Earlham Road with her mother and six-year-old daughter when they were approached by two men close to the West Pottergate junction.

As the men passed the group, one of them grabbed the woman’s handbag and pulled the strap in an attempt to steal it.

The woman fell on to the floor as she held on the bag, along with her child and mother.

The woman and child were uninjured, but the mother suffered bruising to her face, hand and knee.

Both offenders then ran off down West Pottergate. They were described as white, of thin build, and between 5ft 7ins and 5ft 10ins in height.

They were both wearing casual or tracksuit-style clothing.

Call police on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555111.
