A man in a baseball cap and black jacket was seen running out of the shop to an awaiting car on Plumstead Road at around 1.50pm today carrying a basket piled high with meat and salmon.

Paul Rice, a former Norfolk police officer and Train Terrain shop owner, saw a white VW car hovering on the forecourt with a woman behind the wheel.

As the thief ran outside Mr Rice, 54, from Potter Heigham, grabbed him – but was forced to let go as the car sped away, almost smashing in to another vehicle as it left.

Police enquiries continue. Any witnesses should call police on 101.
