A 43-year-old Costessey man has been fined £115 after admitting being drunk and disorderly in the Riverside area of Norwich.
Sean Fitzgerald, of Rose Avenue in the Queens Hills area of Costessey, admitted the offence at Norwich Magistrates Court this morning.
Lisa Mayne, prosecuting, said that police were called to Riverside at 9.50pm on Saturday, August 31, to reports of door staff restraining Fitzgerald outside the Dimensions Fitness gym, formerly Fitness First.
She said that police officers found Fitzgerald in an “agitated and angry state” and that he started being verbally abusive to them, when clearly under the influence of alcohol.
Fitzgerald, representing himself, said he a heart condition which limited the amount he could drink and that he believed his drink had been spiked during the two hours he had been on Riverside.
He said: “It’s with great remorse what happened that particular evening. I let down my partner, son, friends and colleagues that I was with that evening.”
He was ordered to pay a fine of £115, a £20 surcharge to the victims of crime fund and £85 of court costs.
