Man comes down from Hellesdon Hospital roof safely after spending hours on top of the building

A man who climbed onto the roof of Hellesdon Hospital, in Norwich, safely come down from the top of the building after emergency services spent hours at the scene.

Andrew Hopkins, deputy chief executive of the hospital, confirmed that a patient at the hospital had got onto the roof of the building this morning and was up there for a large part of the day.

He said police were at the scene throughout the day talking to the patient, and that he came down safely from the roof during the evening.

He said the hospital had worked closely with the police during the incident and that he was pleased the situation was resolved without any harm caused.

He said following the incident the patient would be put into a more secure ward at the Drayton High Road hospital.

Firefighters were also called to the scene to assist the police.
