A man has been sentenced for his part in a 'brutal' drugs-related attack in Norwich.

The victim was held in his flat in the Ber Street area of Norwich and assaulted by Lewis Grimmer-Dunne, 20, together with others, as part of a drugs-related incident.

Grimmer-Dunne, of no fixed abode, appeared at Norwich Crown Court yesterday to be sentenced after previously admitting wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm and another count of false imprisonment on September 28 last year.

Sentencing the defendant to seven years' detention in a young offenders' institution with a three-year extended licence period to reflect his 'dangerousness', Deputy Circuit Judge Alasdair Darroch described the incident as a sustained attack, adding that 'no-one deserves to be treated in this way'.

He said: 'There was the use of at least one weapon. It was quite unnecessary to beat him up to this extent in order to enforce a drug debt or whatever the drugs motive was.'

Judge Darroch said people were entitled to protection in their own home.

He added: 'No-one, whatever his involvement in drugs deserves to be beaten up and treated in this brutal way.'

Earlier the court heard the victim 'still suffered nightmares' as a result of the attack.

Jonathan Goodman, in mitigation, said his client played a 'subordinate role' in the attack but lent himself to the enterprise although he did not actually inflict any of the serious injuries suffered by the victim.
