The RNLI Lifeboats are ready to respond in all weathers – that was the vow today as the region prepared for one of the strongest storms in years.
This morning (Sunday), the RNLI lifeboat crew at Lowestoft were at sea, training as usual – even though the sea-state was described as “rough” with a strong south-westerly force six wind blowing.
Richard Musgrove, acting Lifeboat Operations Manager at Lowestoft, said: “We take the lifeboat out in all weathers so the volunteer crew can experience, prepare for and train in different conditions be they calm or stormy.
“Of course our advice to anyone thinking of taking to the water tomorrow would be to consider if their trip was really necessary or could it be delayed – and if essential, then to ensure they wear life-jackets and carry a radio in case they get into trouble in the forecasted stormy weather.”
