One of the largest independent bakeries in Norwich will close its Aylsham Road shop on Good Friday following a decline in profits over the past few years.

Linzers, also known as the Boundary Bakery, opened in 1989, but it will close its north Norwich shop on April 14 and shift its focus to its delivery service.

The cake studio, currently located in the Aylsham Road shop, will move to its bigger, wholesale bakery, located on Albertine Close at the Sweetbriar Estate.

Andrew Bell, managing director of Linzers, said: 'The reason we are closing is that over the last couple of years footfall has deteriorated.

'There's so much cheap takeaway food about, and the ring road is a pain to sit on to go and get your lunch.'

'The wholesale bakery is still very active and thriving and we will continue to expand.'

Linzers was founded in 1984 by Andrew and Susan Bell, with the first shop on London Street, and the wholesale bakery was built in 2006.
