Let’s Eat Grandma to headline fundraising concert in aid of cancer-stricken Norwich musician Billy Clayton

Norwich duo Let's Eat Grandma will headline a fundraising concert on Wednesday evening in aid of an aspiring musician who was diagnosed with an aggressive form of bone cancer at the age of 18.

The Benefit for Billy gig, which takes place at Epic Studios from 6pm to 11pm, is being held as £200,000 is needed to pay for Billy Clayton's life-saving treatment for Ewing's sarcoma, which is not available in the UK.

The campaign – which has received support on social media from popstars Charli XCX and Dua Lipa - was launched in August by Billy's mother, Becky Lawrence. It has so far raised £79,991.

Rick Lennox, live music manager at Epic Studios, said: 'We first met Billy when he supported Let's Eat Grandma here in July. They knew each other through Norwich's Access Creative College.

'I was approached by Ian Johnson, head of artist development, who asked if they could have the venue free of charge for the gig.

'It took me less than a second to say yes because Billy is a brilliant kid.

'He's a decent young fella, and he's made contact with so many people in the industry. It's heartbreaking what's happened to him.'

Mr Lennox added that the concert will start at 6pm rather than the usual 7.30pm as there were so many artists wanting to get involved.

It will be one of the last chances to see Let's Eat Grandma perform live this year as they play a sold-out show at Heaven in London the following day (Thursday September 27).

The concert will also see Hannah Diamond make her hometown debut as well as live performances from Suffolk singer Bessie Turner - who last year played at Latitude Festival, and Thetford rapper Franko Fraize.

Norwich-based band Ducking Punches will perform an acoustic set and Fay Milton, drummer of punk band Savages, is booked to DJ.

Billy, a former City of Norwich School pupil has already undergone chemotherapy and radiotherapy as well as major surgery, but at the last meeting with his consultant he was told the tumours in his lungs were growing and that two new tumours had developed in his right shoulder and left hip.

Despite continuing to endure gruelling treatment, he recently finished an artist development course at Access Creative College in Norwich and performed on at Latitude festival this summer.
