A seasoned festival performer, Ince is no stranger to Latitude. He is well-known for his BBC radio show The Infinite Monkey Cage and the live Book Club shows in which he reads aloud and dissects second hand books brought in by the audience, but this year’s Henham Park set was straight forward stand up.

There were plenty of titters as the acerbic comic ranted and raved about growing old and angry at the world, but his philosophically-tinged humour failed to raise belly laughs that comedy crowds have come to expect.

The grumpy old man routine didn’t feel so fresh. It was during the softer moments – the sweet anecdotes about his three-year-old son’s irrepressible ability to do what he wants without fear of judgement, that we caught a glimpse a shimmer of Ince at his best.
