Members of Norwich-based Thorpe Kite Flyers were taking part in a worldwide event, One Sky One World, inspired by the 1985 summit meeting of US president Ronald Reagan and Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev and held annually on the second Sunday in October.

Club secretary John Arnott, 74, of St Faiths Road, Old Catton, said: “Our club has been going more than 25 years and has about 30 members. We fly our kites, some made by us, throughout the year weather permitting.”

On two Sundays a month, club members fly kites at Thorpe recreation ground.
