Improvements made to Lowestoft to Ipswich East Suffolk rail link

Train operator Greater Anglia has started a programme of improvement works at rail stations on the East Suffolk Line between Lowestoft and Ipswich.

The company says the work will bring stations up to standard in advance of the new hourly timetable which will operate on the line from December 10.

Stations on the line are being given a new coat of paint and new signage will be installed.

At selected stations on the route more work will be undertaken or has been carried out.

At Halesworth the canopy has been refurbished and it has also received a new coat of paint.

At Darsham there will be resurfacing of platforms and at Wickham Market there will be the installation of new car park lighting.

Greater Anglia says the refurbishment works will create a much more pleasant and welcoming environment for passengers.

Greater Anglia’s customer services director, Andrew Goodrum said, “We are working hard to improve customer service across the Greater Anglia network and ensuring our passengers experience a clean and pleasant station is extremely important to us.

“Improving and enhancing stations through these improvement works is one way that we are demonstrating our determination to make a real difference for our customers in delivering our franchise commitments.”

  • Nothing much happening at Lowestoft then? I found Lowestoft Station less than "pleasant and welcoming" last Monday afternoon when I arrived shortly before 2.30pm to find the ticket office and the inside waiting area closed. Having to walk down to the side entrance between the taxis and the Station wall isn't great. Being hassled by a rattling drug addict at the ticket machine wasn't what I had in mind either. Nowhere warm to wait for the train. Nowhere to buy a cup of coffee. This is absolutely hopeless for a town with a population of 65,000. [I do know that tickets can be bought on the train, but I have not always been able to do so for the journey I was making.]
