How social media helped reunite a chivalrous man with his lost coat after an appeal to identify him was shared over 900 times.

Debbie Harvey published a Facebook post on Monday afternoon explaining how mystery man Tom had lent her daughter his jacket in the early hours of Sunday morning on Prince of Wales Road to keep her warm.

Without thinking the woman got a lift home in a taxi, taking the jacket with her.

The situation became desperate when the women found tickets to a Valentine’s gig at the Waterfront in one of the pockets.

With only Tom’s name, height and hair colour to go on, Ms Harvey turned to social media.

Within a few hours of the post TV presenter Jake Humphrey, a former pupil of the Hewett School in Norwich, had shared the story on Twitter, leading to over 700 reweets.

The attempts were successful as this morning Ms Harvey broke the news that they had tracked Tom down and that he would be reunited with his coat tomorrow.

Ms Harvey said: “@DebbieHarvey67: BREAKING NEWS: WE’VE FOUND TOM!!! Tom and jacket will be reunited tomorrow!!!! Thanks for all your retweets xx”
