A larger than life Norfolk entertainer has been named as a tourism superstar at a national award ceremony.

Buzby Allen from Potters Leisure Resort in Hopton bear off competition from nine other rivals to win the Tourism Superstar 2014 award on Saturday in London.

The awards were organised by national tourist board Visit England and the Daily Mirror to reward individuals who go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure visitors to England have a priceless experience.

To win the award the 35-year-old assistant entertainment manager had to rely on people voting for him in an on-line competition and he won by securing 27pc of the votes.

In order to drum up support Buzby headed out on a campaign trail across Norfolk, dressed in his signature bright yellow suit.

Buzby led from the front during the three-week voting period and had been nominated for the awards by VisitNorwich.

At the awards ceremony he said: “I am over the moon and so excited... I am outrageously, fantastically, brilliantly, happy.

“Thank you to everyone who has helped us to win this. Norfolk has been absolutely outstanding.”

His nomination has said: “Buzby works as an on-resort entertainer and member of the resident comedy team, and has been with the holiday village for over 20 years.

“He is ever present on resort whether that’s coaching football, umpiring a curling match or simply making guests smile.

“His managers say that without Buz the resort would not be the same.”

It was the third Tourism Superstar awards and Saturday’s event marked the start of English Tourism Week.

Helen Grant, minister for tourism, said Buzby’s commitment, enthusiasm and willingness to go beyond the call of duty had seen him win the award.

Buzby was invited to attend VisitEngland’s Awards for Excellence ceremony at Cheltenham racecourse in May to receive his trophy.
