Bunting, buns and a best dressed competition are just some of the events lined up for Holt’s jubilee celebrations.
North Norfolk’s Georgian town will be commemorating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with a whole host of activities during June 1-4.
To launch the festivities there will be a concert held in the Community Centre on June 1.
On June 2 there will be a craft fair in Church Street from 10am-3pm, which will be followed by a royal tea from 4pm-6pm. Everyone is invited to bring with them a plate of food to share and tea will be served in the Parish Hall.
It is hoped everyone will wear a crown and gown to take part in the best dressed competition. There will also be a cake competition for the best decorated cake and cup cake as well as lots of activities for all the family, including palm printing for children.
On June 3 there will be a two course roast lunch in Church Street at 1pm. Tickets cost £10 for adults and £5 for children and there will be a licensed bar, entertainment and a civic service in the church at 3.30pm. In the morning there will be a 800-metre long jubilee fun run at Spouts Common from 9am-noon. The first 100 people to complete the run will receive a medal.
On June 4 the jubilee beacon will be lit on the Common. The Queen is lighting her own beacon in London on the same day at 10pm and it is hoped that this beacon will be one of the other 2012 other beacons around the country being lit at the same time.
During the weekend there will also be a team of judges looking at front gardens. They will tour the town in search of the prettiest garden.
To complement the jubilee bunting, which will be used to decorate the town centre shops, residents are being asked to decorate their own homes too. The town’s bunting will continue to be flown until the Olympic Torch has gone through the town on July 4.
● Holt Town Council are asking people to send in photographs from the weekend as they would like to put these into a bound book to commemorate this great event. For more information or to buy tickets please call town clerk Di Dann on 01263 712149 or email email@example.com.
