Reaction to the news the county's flagship hospital had been judged as inadequate by inspectors saw readers throw their support behind frontline staff.

A report from the Care Quality Commission (CQC), released yesterday (Tuesday) found the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH) was inadequate overall and placed it into special measures.

The CQC found the hospital was inadequate for both safety and being well-led, and required improvement in the areas of being responsive and effective.

But in the caring category, which mainly reflects staff on the ground, they were judged as good.

NNUH staff and patients took to social media to support those who work at the trust.

While Sarah Ann said: 'I'm absolutely heartbroken to see the CQC put @NNUH on special measures. Patient care remains excellent despite gross lack of resources. Staff are dedicated, caring and skilled and prioritise care effectively. Let's support NNUH staff.'

Louise Cook, who heads up fundraising at the hospital, said: 'Been reading messages-from colleagues and patients expressing the thanks for the care colleagues show patients @NNUH. I think we should encourage more people to shout about their positive experience that they receive at NNUH. I am lucky to hear/see stories every day in my role.'

Amy Eagle, divisional operations director for women and children's services at NNUH, tweeted: Today was tough, emotionally, for all of us at @NNUH ... we will overcome the challenges in front of us and come out stronger and better, so proud of my organisation and colleagues #TeamNNUH #PRIDEvalues'

On Facebook, Mel Pennellier said: 'Frontline staff are sincere in their approach and care but recent personal experience of the trust has indeed highlighted that staff are under pressure under resourced, administrative errors unnecessary and all exacerbated by poor communication with the diminished GP offering.'

Lisa-Marie Hayes added: 'My son was looked after after being blue lighted from JPH at 5 weeks old, his care was amazing can't fault them. The children's ward is fantastic.'
