Norwich store’s customers urged to get knitting for hospital’s neonatal ward

13:40 26 May 2014

A 'Knit a hat for a premature baby' campaign has started at John Lewis Norwich Photo is from last year when customers knitted over 2000 hats that were donated to the N and N hospital. Submitted

Retailer John Lewis in Norwich is running a month-long campaign asking customers to give up an hour of their time to knit a hat for the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital’s neonatal ward.

The event, which started yesterday and runs until Sunday, June 22, comes after the success of last year’s ‘Knit a hat for a premature baby’ campaign.

Customers who would like to get involved should visit the store’s haberdashery department, where they will be provided with a knitting pattern and enough wool to knit one hat. The hats are essential for newborn babies as they help regulate their body temperature. The neonatal ward also needs knitted blankets which must be 20 inches square with no knitted holes - blankets can be dropped off at the store and will be delivered to the hospital with the hats. Gemma Crowe, from John Lewis, said: “We hope it will be as successful as last year.”

  • Such an important cause. I was born 3 months early and neonates' need as much care as possible.
