The James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston is spending £1.3 million on recruiting additional registered nurses.
A full review of nursing at the NHS trust is currently being carried out by director of nursing Liz Libiszewski who, the trust said, is looking a “innovative ways to increase availability of staff and ensure compliance with national guidelines for having the right staff in the right place at the right time”.
A number of the posts have already been filled through overseas recruitment to help cope with the increased demand over winter.
Over the coming months, the trust will fill nursing vacancies through local and overseas recruitment, retaining students as they complete their training and employing staff who are returning to practice.
“It is not just about more nurses, the review also looks at how we can further support and value the staff we already have, enhance their skills and make the James Paget an attractive place to work so they want to stay here,” added Ms Libiszewski.
