The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH) has been shortlisted for a prestigious regional award for their work to promote apprenticeships at the trust.

The National Apprenticeship Awards for the East of England recognise the achievements of extraordinary apprentices, the businesses that employ them, and the individuals that champion apprenticeships, and NNUH is delighted to be shortlisted in the macro employer category.

The award winners will be announced at an event at Newmarket Racecourse on September 12.

Annie Cook, career development co-ordinator at NNUH said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be shortlisted for this award. This news demonstrates our dedicated work to support those undergoing apprenticeships here at NNUH.”

She added: “Our apprenticeship programme is very successful with 98pc of new apprentices going on to employment, 92pc stay within the trust. Many apprentices have gone on to higher education to do nursing, midwifery, biomedical science, audiology, finance, business, and management and leadership, and so apprenticeships are the start of exciting careers in the NHS.”

There are currently over 1200 employees at NNUH who have either completed or are studying towards the apprenticeship programmes.

Mark Davies, chief executive, said: “Apprenticeships at NNUH are a fantastic opportunity for those looking to begin a career within the NHS. To be shortlisted for this award and recognised externally in such a way is fantastic news for the team, the trust and for all those interested in undergoing an apprenticeship at NNUH. My thanks go to all those involved in the award shortlisting, and I wish the team all the best for the award ceremony next month.”
