A decision on whether a new temporary 350-space car park can be built at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital will be made this week.

The hospital revealed earlier this year how it was in talks with Bullen Developments, which bought former farm land next to the hospital’s Colney site last November, to create between 300 and 700 new spaces on a private development known as Norwich Research Park South.

A planning application for a temporary car park was lodged with South Norfolk Council, and councillors on the authority’s development management committee will decide whether to approve it at a meeting on Wednesday.

Officers at South Norfolk Council are recommending that councillors grant permission for the car park, with the hospital having more than a hundred workers who are entitled to parking passes, but with no spaces available.

The officers say the proposal would allow the current shortfall to be met.

  • In full agreement with bookworm and oldboy. Even late at night it was very difficult to find a parking space. Boils down to bad planning in the first place.

  • Long overdue, if the plan is successful, how about extra parking for the patients, without patients don't need the staff!
