Golfers paid tribute to a keen sportsman as they raised £1,100 in his memory at a charity tournament.

The second Brian Fretter Golf Day was held by Mr Fretter’s wife Sue Fretter and her son Darren Fretter-Hall at Costessey Golf Club in August.

Brian, who had been diagnosed with motor neurone disease, died in September 2010, and the golf day in his memory aimed to raise awareness of the condition as well as funds for a motor neurone disease charity.

Mrs Fretter, of Taverham, said: “It was a wonderful sunny hot day this August at Costessey Golf Club. Some people travelled over 100 miles from Leicester to Norwich to attend this cause. Everyone played their part in supporting this day and £1,100 was raised.

“Brian was a very keen sportsman and would have been proud of the turnout.”

She added: “Many thanks to all who took part in raising this money.

“Everyone is looking forward to the 2013 golf day.”

Andy Tye won first place in the competition on count back with 34 points. In second place was Andy Lansdale with 34 points, and in third place was Mike Thorpe with 32 points.

The Nearest the Pin prize went to John Cocks and Longest Drive went to Barry Milligan.
