Gareth the gorilla may have sold for £3,100 at auction in Norwich two weeks ago, but has now attracted more than £2,000 above that price after being re-auctioned on the internet.
The gorilla, one of the stars of the GoGoGorillas! trail around Norwich this summer, was decorated in leaves and canaries and appeared on eBay less than two weeks after going under the hammer at the GoGoGorillas! auction to raise funds for children’s charity Break and the Born Free Foundation.
Seller Packman187 had started bidding at £3,200, but said that anyone submitting a bid of £5,700 would instantly win the beast.
The auction started at 3.40am last Friday, October 11, and was due to last for 10 days, but came to an early end when a buyer using the name n***l put in a £5,700 bid at 4.45pm today.
The eBay page described the chance to buy Gareth as a “unique second chance to own one of the GoGoGorillas! that paraded around Norwich city.”
It adds: “Gareth was bought to resell to make further proceeds for an alternative charity. I am running the London Marathon next year (2014) and I wish to raise as much awareness (and as much money!) as I can for my chosen charity MS-UK.”
Gareth was designed by artist Gillian Jeffery.
