A former Norwich City striker took a break from his usual daily routine to officially open a friend’s new café in the heart of Wroxham.
Iwan Roberts, who began his career for the football club in the late nineties, brought the sun with him when he cut the ribbon to declare Deckside - a French and Italian style eatery serving “good English food” - open for business today.
Run by owners, husband and wife team Aidan and Emma Mahon, Deckside, off Norwich Road, is a family-friendly café aimed at food lovers who want to try “something different”.
Mr Mahon, 43, said: “We decided to expand to Wroxham as we wanted to try something a bit different here. It’s a brilliant thing for us to be doing.
“The people in Wroxham have welcomed us with open arms, especially the local business community.
“We are hoping the summer trade will help us start up strong.”
Mr Mahon and his wife already run the Thorpe St Andrew based catering business, Nourish, and with their Wroxham venture they are in partnership with local businessmen and brothers, Dennis and John Bacon.
Mr Mahon, who starts his day at 4am to prepare the day’s produce, added: “It will be open all year round and we will continue to make homemade food and keep sourcing local ingredients.”
The 30-seater cafe has also undergone a completely renovation.
• Deckside is open seven days a week, 8.30am to 5pm, and will possibly stay open later during the peak summer season. Pensioners will also be offered a 20pc discount Monday to Friday, between 10am and 1pm. For more information visit www.decksidewroxham.co.uk.
