Firefighters were called to the bungalow in Thetford Road just before midnight and were on scene for more than six hours.

Four appliances from Watton, Hingham and Dereham and the aerial ladder platform from Earlham attended to extinguish the blaze, which affected the roof of the property.

The female owner and her cat were safely taken from the scene.

A crew returned to the scene this morning to investigate the fire.
