Four appliances from Aylsham, Reepham, Sprowston and North Walsham were called to the blaze in Stonegate at around 7.18pm, where 1,000 tonnes of straw and 1,000 of maize were found alight.

A spokesman for Norfolk Fire Service said crews would be monitoring the blaze to ensure it did not spread.

Relief crews are due to arrive at midnight, and the fire service is expecting to be in attendance until the early hours of tomorrow morning.

It is not yet known how the fire started.
