Trinity Liliana Coward, two, died after a stone fire surround fell on her at home in Theobald Road in Old Lakenham on Sunday.

Grief-stricken parents Shaun and Kelly Coward are still too distraught to speak publicly about the tragedy but have today thanked people for their generosity at this awful time through close friend Sharon Robinson.

Mrs Robinson spoke out on behalf of the family, who are “heartbroken” and “torn”, but who wanted to thank people for “really amazing support” they had received in the past few days.

She said: “The family want to thank everyone for their generosity, for the way the public and the community have pulled together to support them.”
Mrs Robinson, who revealed she wants to be there to support the family as they have supported her in the past, said they also wanted to warn others about the need to check fire surrounds at their home.

She said: “They don’t want her death to be in vain. Nothing can bring her back but they want they want other people to check their surrounds so it doesn’t happen to another child - that’s the message they want to get across. Please check your surrounds in your home and don’t let it happen to another child.“

Although the family have not yet spoken about the tragedy, they have released a tribute to Trinity in a short statement which described the toddler as “our little princess”.

It said: “Your gorgeous smile and those dimples forever etched on our hearts.

“Daddy’s little baby girl shine bright like a diamond in the sky.

“Mummy’s little angel so loving and cuddly. Can’t wait to have snuggles.

“‘Til we see you again, all our love from Mummy, Daddy and your brothers and sisters.”

Mrs Robinson, 35, today paid her own tribute to Trinity. She said: “She lit up the room - she was a little sparkle in the room.

“She was full of smiles and full of cuddles. She was their little princess, particularly her daddy’s little princess.

“I will remember her as the smiley little girl, the beautiful little smiley girl who just stood out, she really did.

“She loved Peppa Pig and playing with her brother’s cars as well. She was a little princess.”

The Rev Kate Belcher, the assistant priest at St John the Baptist Church in Old Lakenham, lit a candle for the Coward family and told of her shock and sadness at the death.

“It’s a loss to the whole of the community and as a church we will be doing everything we can to help the family,” she said.

“I and the whole community will be praying for her family; our hearts go out to them.”

Neighbours reported hearing a loud crash on Sunday afternoon followed by screaming from the family’s home before paramedics battled to safe the girl’s life.

Norfolk police confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious and has been handed to Norfolk’s coroner for investigation.
