Part of Chapelfield Shopping Centre in Norwich was evacuated briefly at around 3.30pm this afternoon because of a fire alarm.
A Chapelfield spokesman said: “There was a false alarm triggered by one of the retailers in the upper ground mall of Chapelfield.
“As a matter of protocol, this resulted in one zone of the centre having to be closed for around five minutes. All stores are now open as usual.”
The evacuation was soon being talked about by shoppers on social network Twitter, with @TobyNay saying: “They just evacuated the whole of chapelfield!”
While @jessduffin tweeted: “OMG (oh my God) panic in Chapelfield!”
Shoppers were quickly able to continue as normal though, with @Jack_Roll joking: “I survived Chapelfield 2013.”
