So much has gone wrong at Norwich City Football Club in the past few months – culminating of course in confirmation that from next season the city will no longer be home to a Premier League club.

From today it is imperative everyone within Carrow Road works their hardest to put things right.

That work begins with confirmation of who will manage the club in its first season back in the Championship. That decision is due by the end of the week, so whoever is selected has maximum time to assemble a squad which will have a shot at promotion at the first attempt.

There are likely to be many player changes over the next few months, the irony of football being that many of those who failed to perform in the yellow and green will go on to greater things. In their selection of new players to come in, the club must be sure they have not just the talent, but also the desire and stomach for the fight to succeed. All too often it has seemed as though some of the current crop did not possess these characteristics.

The Canaries are a club famed for attractive and positive football. There was a time they were the second team of many rival fans, largely thanks to this.

Somewhere along the line this trait has been lost and if that carries on there's a risk it will impact the number of loyal supporters who pass through the turnstiles week in, week out.

Granted, there's a lot going on within the club that should be praised. The effort to turn around its financial fortunes have been magnificent and should put Norwich in a strong position.

It is also important to remember it wasn't too long ago that even Championship football seemed like a pipe dream.

However, the lesson from the past must be that this club must not be allowed to fester in the second tier of English football.

Time and again it is proven that a city or town's football status can have an impact not just on the general mood of its people, but also the perception others have of it. A premier league club, means a premier league city.

The Canaries have a set of fans who deserve Premier League football. This fine city deserves and needs Premier League football.

From today it's time to start the process of bringing it back.
