Entrepreneur ready to take on the mantle of well-loved Indian restaurant in Wymondham

A budding entrepreneur has given a well-loved Indian restaurant in south Norfolk a new lease of life.
Juber Ahmed took over the Shapla Tandoori restaurant, on Town Green in Wymondham, three months ago, after a successful career in Norwich.
And the 39-year-old’s first call as owner was to give the restaurant a complete overhaul - complete with wooden floor and plush leather seats.
“Before the decor was quite outdated - what we have done is we have taken out the green carpet, changed the paintwork - basically it has had a full refurbishment.”
Mr Ahmed, who has decided to keep the same menu and head chef Abdul Rahman, said that people in Wymodnham had been welcoming - but wary of the change.
“They were used to something for so long and people know that they like what they like - but they are starting to get used to me now, which is nice. The previous owner had been here 27 years.
“It’s like with anything - it takes a while. I kept the same chef who has been here for 20 years because I didn’t want to just come in and change everything,” he said.
Shapla Tandoori is the first restaurant London-born Mr Ahmed has owned, with previous stints at the Ali Tandoori and Nazma in Norwich.
“It has always been a dream of mine to open my own restaurant - and this seemed like a great opportunity. It’s quite a tight-knit community - but I’m having to get used to how quiet it is here,” he said.
The entrepreneur, who has a nine-month-old son, describes the menu as “authnetic Indian cuisine”, with a varied menu of traditional dishes.
