Emergency services are bracing themselves for a busy night as storms hit the county.

At 6pm, Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service had already received a call to Kimblewick Equestrian Centre in North Tuddenham, where 18mm of rain has fallen.

Sarah Moore, the owner, said that parents were unable to pick up their children from the riding school due to the flooding.

“We are up to our knees in it - it happened really quickly. We have 15 kids here that we can’t get home - parents can’t get up the drive to get them so we are having to carry them. The horses are also being affected by it,” she added.

On Riverside Road, a three-vehicle collision caused rush-hour delays for motorists.

The incident, which involved a blue Mini, a black Honda Civic and a blue Peugeot 206, happened at around 5.30pm, just as the worst of the weather was beginning to hit.

The storms are expected to last throughout the evening, with tomorrow set to be dry.

A spokesperson Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service said: “We are anticipating that we could get very busy - we are getting prepared.”
