A woman has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car in Norwich.

The accident took place shortly before 7.15am, on Ber Street near to the junction with Horns Lane.

Ber Street was closed between its junctions with Finkelgate and Golden Ball Street and a blue Peugeot 206 could be seen in the middle of the road with a dent in its bonnet.

Chris Lagan, from Sheringham, was driving past when he saw the accident.

He said: “By the time I had pulled over, there were people all around helping her.”

The East of England Ambulance Service sent a rapid response vehicle, ambulance crew, and a response car from East Anglian Air Ambulance to the scene and treated the woman, believed to be in her 60s, who had suffered head and leg injuries.

She was treated at the scene and was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital for further care. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The road closure resulted in long delays along Rouen Road, City Road and Prince of Wales Road.

Norfolk Constabulary confirmed at 10.45am that the road had reopened.

• Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or the events leading up to the incident, should contact PC Robert Connor or the Norfolk and Suffolk Serious Collision Investigation Team on 101.
