A group of firefighters had a sentimental trip to their former base to see how it has been transformed into Norwich’s newest free school.

The men, some of whom had worked at the old fire station on Bethel Street for decades, pulled up in two fire engines to have a look at the Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form.

Principal Mark Evans said: “They rocked up a week ago and said ‘we would love to have a look around’. They came back and they were really intrigued and there was a real combination of nostalgia, and some regret that a place that had been their home for decades was no longer their home.

“They were all ever-so pleased it will remain in the public domain.”

Some asked to return with grown up children who spent their childhood there.
