A multi-sensory festive work of art and a tasty cake-themed stack of presents are among the yuletide masterpieces created by pupils for the NORWICHRISTMAS Art Trail.

The trail will be in Norwich until Twelfth Night and sees the art work of 18 schools displayed in venues across the city. We visited every school while the pupils were decorating their present stack sculptures for the trail and will be featuring each school online and in the paper. Today is the turn of The Clare School and Larkman Primary School.

Larkman Primary School

Students from Larkman Primary School said they were excited to be part of Norwich's festive art project and having their work displayed in the city.

Years three and four created the Clarkson Road school's cake-themed present stack which will be displayed in Chapelfield Shopping Centre.

The youngsters said they really enjoyed making their festive work of art.

Among them was Olivia Copland who said: 'We got to have fun doing what we are good at – I enjoyed putting the fruit on the 'cake' as that is what made it look like a cake and not presents!'

Lara Schneider said she loved being able to create and design ideas, while Storm Gowen said it was good that they could share their talent with others.

The Clare School

Pupils from The Clare School had fun creating a multi-sensory work of art for the NORWICHRISTMAS Art Trail.

Ten pupils in form Kl designed the school's artwork which is being displayed at Jarrold.

Jenna Kemp, art and design co-coordinator at the South Park Avenue school, said: 'The pupils chose to decorate their presents with a Santa, a snowman, a Christmas tree and a snow globe.

'Pupils have painted their designs onto all four sides of the sculpture and added tactile elements such as fabric, gemstones and cotton wool.

'Many of the pupils at The Clare School have visual impairment and therefore the pupils wanted to include a tactile element to the sculpture. This idea has worked well visually and has enabled other children in the school to visit and explore the work of their peers.'

She said the pupils were really excited about taking part in the project and it was a great opportunity for them to showcase their work to the public.

'The pupils really got stuck in with the themes of the project even asking to play Christmas music whist they work!' she said.

The NORWICHRISTMAS Art Trail is being delivered by NORCA (Norwich and Norfolk Community Arts) on behalf of the Norwich Business Improvement District, and it aims to encourage more people to explore the city this Christmas.
